Jiujian at Singapore Art Museum!

It was a very fruitful Saturday for me last week. After judging for Kovan Superstar, we got to rush over to the Singapore Art Museum for Jiujian's mini concert.

Jiujian brought over some friends of his who are n
o strangers to us. They include project superstar Dawn and Chanel, Tao Zhe's backup vocalist Kewei, local artist Joanna Dong, Ric from Dream Fm, Huang Bi Yan, Meixin and others....We had some catchup moments with Kewei as it has been a while since we last saw her at a friend's wedding. She is now working on her upcoming EP, we wish her the best of luck!

Jiujian rushed over from a press conference which ended at 5pm. He is very busy with producing a single which is recorded with 40 over local celebrities for a good cause - to raise funds for the Sichuan Earthquake victims. The single will be on sale very soon in all Sembawang Music Stores. Please do your part in this charity event.

The concert was filled with a hundred over wonderful audiences. Jiujian was very witty and charming as a performer. Our guitar instructor Jacob did a great job too. Watch out for their performances to be upload to youtube very soon!

Jiujian was actually very tired as he was tied up with many things at the same time, but he did not show a single sign of his fatigue on stage. Frankly speaking, Jiujian is one of the most sincere person I have met in my life. I can't wait for our future collaboration for his concert....=)

Kovan Superstar 2008!

Kovan Superstar is a singing competition co-organized by Echo Music and the Xtreme Youth Zone Inc. The audition kicked off on the 24th May attracting over 60 applications. The judges were vocal instructor Meijin from the Singapore Bible College, Campus Superstar runner up Benjamin and myself.

The standard of the competition was much higher than I expected. I feel youngsters nowadays can really sing...which is great! There are certainly some who are more outstanding than others. But we will not know the final outcome until the final which is on the 21st June.

Echo Music had some students taking part as well. It is an experience I wish them to have more than anything else. I wish to congratulate Neo, Fiona and Liling who had made it through the finals. Jiayou ya....

As I am one of the judge, so there are only limited pics which I can take on my side. So...these are some of them...

It was definitely a chance of my 20plus plus plus (haa) years "lifetime", to play in a concert and to work with experience musicians. Thanks to Jiu Jian, for inviting Echo Music to work with him for his concert to mark his 20 years in the music scene!

Latest news, is that Jiu Jian decided to donate the tickets sales of his 2nd day concert to help the earthquake victims in Sichuan. =)

Preparation for June...

Our local actor, singer and DJ Jiujian will be having his concert on the 7th and 8th of June respectively in the Jubilee Hall.

Echo Music is delighted to be part of the show. Many of our instructors like Simon and Simin will be playing in the band. Hefang and Wendy will be leading the backup vocals....not forgetting our students who are also in the choir team! It will definitely be a different experience for all of them.

We got to meet up with Ruth Ling who is the music director of the concert. For those who are very active in the music scene will not very familiar with this name. This charming lady is a huge talent. As a musician, she has toured with overseas artists such as Stefanie Sun, Sally Yeh (HK), Eric Moo (M’sia) and Saraa (Mongolia). She has also accompanied local singers such as Wendi Koh, Cat Ong, Robert Fernando, Jessica Soo, Aubrey Ng and Clement Chow. Visit her website at www.ruthling.net to know more about this great local talent.

For a musician as big as she is , Ruth is a very patient and humble person. I am sure this short session with her is a very valuable experience for all.

Some pictures for the night:

The trademark sound of Russell’s soaring tenor voice and Graham’s simple yet majestic songs went on to create a unique sound that became known as Air Supply, and the group have always held audiences captive in their many live shows around the world.

Their affinity with Asia is evident when Air Supply became the first western group to tour China, Taiwan and countless other countries which before that would not allow pop music into their borders.

In 1983 they recorded ‘Making Love Out of Nothing at All’ by Jim Steinman which solidified the group as a permanent force in modern music. This song was released on “The Greatest Hits” album which soared past 7 million copies.

Their many other hits include ‘Lost in Love’, ‘All Out of Love’, ‘The One That You Love’, ‘Sweet Dreams’, ‘Every Woman In The World’, ‘Even The Nights Are Better’ and ‘Two Less Lonely People In The World’, each having achieved multi-million plays on the radio.

I might catch this one along with some other instructors....anyone want to join in?

Cute faces all around....

After Yuan Shuai, we have another cute face from the variety show 'Ur the One' came visiting. This time around...it is Caleb Chow.

It is about 12pm when I heard footsteps from outside. I thought it might be one of our instructors as the first lesson don't start until one pm. But it was a pleasant surprise when I saw Caleb stepping in. It was then I recall that he will be having a crash course with our our guitar instructor Jacob.

Caleb looks very young in person and his skin is luminously fair and flawless. His personality is really lovable too. I sincerely hope he do well in the competition and bring his great personality in the show. Go Go Caleb!
